Your Guide to our Local Hospitals

Folkestone`s Royal Victoria Hospital

The three hospitals you are most likely to come across as one of our patients are the Royal Victoria Hospital in Folkestone, the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford and the Buckland Hospital in Dover. You may also end up at the Kent and Canterbury hospital in Canterbury if you have certain medical conditions. If you choose to be seen as a private patient you may find yourself at St Saviour`s Hospital in Hythe or the Chaucer Hospital in Canterbury.

The local hospital in Folkestone (pictured above) has many facilities you may come across; these include the following:

Out patient clinics for most consultants, a casualty department open during the day (where things like minor injuries can be dealt with without the need to make an appointment), Xray and ultrasound scanning facilities, some wards for the care of patients such as the elderly who are recovering from illnesses, blood taking services (open mon, tue and thu 9am-2pm no appointment needed), physiotherapy and many other useful services.

William Harvey Hospital Ashford

Patients who are admitted to hospital as an emergency or those needing more complex tests or treatment than can be given in the hospital in town or in Dover will be directed to the William Harvey hospital in Ashford (off the M20 junction 10) where full 24 hour expert care is always available or to the Buckland hospital in Dover (signed off the one way system in town) which has similar although less extensive facilities.

The William Harvey Hospital is the largest hospital in the area and is equipped with a full 24 hour casualty service together with clinics and other services for the whole area. If you are sent in to hospital by your GP in an emergency it is either to this hospital or to the Buckland Hospital in Dover (below) where you will find yourself.

Our local private hospital is the St Saviours hospital in Hythe on the main A259 road. If you have private insurance or wish to see a consultant privately please discuss this with your GP who will be able to make the necessary arangements.

Other local facilities include the Folkestone Health Centre on Dover Road, (on the one way system) which has clinics for sexually transmitted diseases, family planning and many other services. You can find their contact number on the links pages.

Overall, there are plenty of local health resources to help you in this area.
