A BIT ABOUT FOLKESTONE Folkestone is a seaside town situated on the Kent coast about ten miles from Dover and on the main M20 Motorway from London. It grew to prosperity in the Victorian Era as both a port and a seaside resort and while it still is both, it has changed quite a bit since its early days. Folkestone in the 21st Century has both good and bad points...while the surroundings of the town and some parts within it offer excellent scenery and activities, many parts of the town are run down and have seen better days. Much hope is resting on the new CTRL (Channel Tunnel Rail link ) seen here under construction... ![]() The hope is, if all goes to plan, that domestic trains to London will be able to run on it. This should bring Folkestone to within a 50 minute or so journey to London, instead of one and a half to two hours at present. If the growth of other towns with similar links to London is anything to go by, hopefully Folkestone will be the place to be in, say, 2015 !! Back in the present, however, we offer you three different aspects of Folkestone to choose from : When you have seen enough of Folkestone, click below or on the `home` picture on the left to return to the main index page. |
